Teaching

Meg Lui is a teaching artist, theater director, and singer-songwriter based in New York’s Hudson Valley, where she has lived since 2015. Originally from Northern California, her work bridges music, theater, and storytelling, with a deep focus on creative expression, collaboration, and helping students of all ages find and trust their own voices.

For over a decade, Meg has worked with children and adults in private lessons, group classes, and collaborative creative projects. She has taught students ages 4–16 as a music teacher, songwriting instructor, theater director, private voice and guitar instructor, and youth arts program creator. From 2019–2025, she served as the Youth Theater and Songwriting Director at the Phoenicia Playhouse, where she led youth productions and original songwriting programs rooted in storytelling, ensemble work, and creative autonomy. From 2021–2023, Meg was also the music teacher at the Middle Way School in Saugerties, NY, teaching Pre-K through 6th grade. During her time there, she built a comprehensive music curriculum and developed an afterschool lesson program combining songwriting, performance, and collaborative play.

In addition to her youth-focused work, Meg teaches adults through private lessons, songwriting clinics, and creative coaching. Her teaching style is process-oriented and student-led, designed to meet people where they are—whether they are brand new to music, returning after time away, or looking to deepen an existing artistic practice.

Meg attended Berklee College of Music (’11), where she studied vocal performance, songwriting, and music business. She is a member of SAG-AFTRA and has worked professionally as a voice actor, composer, and session vocalist for national and international commercials, independent films, and recordings with Grammy-nominated artists.

As an artist under the name Meg Lui, she is known for vivid lyrics, poignant melodies, and a voice that feels both intimate and timeless. Over the past several years, she has lent her vocals to recordings by Sufjan Stevens (Javelin), Sam Evian (Plunge), John Legend (My Favorite Dream), Denison Witmer (Anything At All), and forthcoming releases by Keenan O’Meara and Liam Kazar. She performs regularly with Keenan O’Meara, Hannah Cohen, and the country band Critter Bonus. Her latest single, “Gone Girl,” co-produced by Sufjan Stevens and Keenan O’Meara, was released on Asthmatic Kitty Records in January 2026.

At the heart of Meg’s teaching and artistic work is a belief that creating art—whether through song, theater, movement, or play—is a powerful outlet for emotions, imagination, and growth. Her classes and lessons emphasize collaboration, storytelling, and creative independence, encouraging students to voice their own ideas, take risks, and experience the joy of building something meaningful together.
