ARTIST BIO
SHORT BIO:
Meg Lui is a Northern California–born singer-songwriter, based in the Hudson Valley since 2015.
In her songs, vivid lyrics and poignant melodies intertwine with a voice that feels both intimate
and lasting. Through reflections on love, resilience, and the human experience, she offers
listeners a window into her world.
Her latest single Gone Girl, which came out in late January 2026, was co-produced by Sufjan
Stevens and Keenan O’Meara and marks her debut release on Asthmatic Kitty Records—a
reflective anthem about stepping away from screens, breaking free from the grind, and
reconnecting with what makes us human.
Over the past several years, Meg has lent her voice to records including Sufjan Stevens’ Javelin
(2023), Sam Evian’s Plunge, Denison Witmer’s Anything At All, John Legend’s My Favorite
Dream, Keenan O’Mearas forthcoming record Bathe In The Everlasting Light, Sam Evian’s
Plunge, and Liam Kazar's Pilot Light and she performs regularly as a band member for Keenan
O’Meara and Hannah Cohen.
LONG BIO:
Meg Lui is a Northern California–born singer-songwriter based in New York’s Hudson Valley
since 2015. In her music, vivid lyrics and poignant melodies intertwine with a voice that feels
both intimate and lasting. Through reflections on love, resilience, and the human experience,
she offers listeners a window into her world.
Raised just outside Folsom, California, Meg grew up the youngest of three along the old
highway connecting Folsom and Auburn. Her first CD collection—a hand-me-down from her
brother—featured No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom, The Verve Pipe’s Villains, Mariah Carey’s
Butterfly, and Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car. At thirteen, after discovering Freddie Mercury, she
joined an all-girl rock band with her best friends, covering Cream and Led Zeppelin until
neighbors politely asked them to retire “Smoke on the Water.”
A Californian by birth, Boston-educated at Berklee College of Music, musically raised in
Brooklyn, and now settled in the Catskills, Meg has released music under the names M. Lui,
Grover, and as part of the trio Ember Isles. During her Brooklyn years, she co-wrote and starred
in the rock opera Smile Swamp Princess. Her influences—ranging from Freddie Mercury, The
Cranberries, No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, and Bonnie Raitt—reflect her love for artists whose
fearless individuality continues to shape her dynamic songwriting and performance.
Over the past several years, Meg has lent her voice to records including Sufjan Stevens’ Javelin
(2023), Sam Evian’s Plunge, Denison Witmer’s Anything At All, John Legend’s My Favorite
Dream, Keenan O’Mearas forthcoming record Bathe In The Everlasting Light, and Liam Kazar's
Pilot Light and she performs regularly as a band member for Keenan O’Meara and Hannah
Cohen and with the local Hudson Valley country band Critter Bonus.
Outside of her own work, Meg has spent the last decade leading music and songwriting
programs for children ages 5–13, continuing to teach and create through the pandemic.
